Bates County is located in West Central Missouri. It is named for Frederick Bates, 2nd Governor of Missouri.
The seat and largest city are both Butler. This county sits just outside of the Kansas City Metro Area.
It borders Cass, Henry, St. Clair, and Vernon Counties in Missouri; as well as Linn and Miami Counties in Kansas.
Main highways include I-49, US-71, MO-18 and MO-52.
